Music At Moomba Park Primary School, we value the Arts, appreciating how important it is for many people and communities. As such all students from Foundation to Grade 6 participate in weekly one-hour Music Classes in a dedicated, well-resourced Music classroom. Students sing and learn to play a wide variety of musical instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars and keyboards. Students also experiment with music technology to discover diverse music ideas. Students work with their whole class, in small groups, in pairs and individually. They explore music elements to develop their own music. Students are introduced to a range of music styles and use these ideas to improvise and compose original music which they perform with their peers and their community. Students from Grades 2 – 6 extend their musical interests through regular lunchtime rehearsals in our School Choir, perform at School Assemblies and perform biannually with the Massed Choir in the ‘Victorian State Schools Spectacular’ at Hisense Arena. Students from Grades 2 – 6 also extend their musical interests through regular lunchtime rehearsals with a School Band, where they contribute to individual or band composed songs, perform at School Assemblies and perform with many bands from other Primary and Secondary Schools at the annual Northern Metropolitan ‘School of Rock’. Students in Grades 3 & 4 can rehearse and perform in a Percussion Ensemble with students from other local Primary Schools directed by Community Artists at the annual Fawkner Community Festival, where the School Choir and Band has also performed. Students have the opportunity to extend their musicianship by taking up a Music Instrument of their choice for individual or small group Instrumental Music Lessons. |
