STEAM
In STEAM, students learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths. Students from grade Prep to 2 have a one-hour lesson each week and grade 3-6 students get a two-hour session in the STEAM classroom.
Lessons cover Science through experiments, research and discussion. Lessons are as hands-on as possible and students are encouraged to use the skills learnt to create things and learn the how and why of how things work. Students then use the STEAM classroom resources as a MakerSpace. Projects are created to demonstrate learning.
Technology is taught through Online Safety lessons, reinforcing learning on iPads, research on laptops and iPads, programming Edison and BeeBot robots, 3D printing and electronics.
Engineering is taught through the design process and construction challenges with an engineer who is a regular volunteer through through the CSIRO STEM Professionals in Schools program.
Arts are taught through learning songs, designing for aesthetics and art, media arts through technology and appreciation of colour and design.
Maths is learnt through construction and measurement, including weights of objects and scaled diagrams and the use of data in Science.
There is a lunch time Lego club as well.
