Environment & Sustainability

At Moomba Park Primary School, we value our environment. We take on our responsibility to continually improve our sustainability practises, reduce our school waste and provide meaning experiences with nature.

Our sustainable practices include:

  • Planting edible gardens

  • Managing worm farms

  • Composting our organic waste

  • Organising waste into recycling and landfill

  • Encouraging students to bring “nude food” (rubbish free) lunchboxes to reduce waste at school

  • Participating in daily “Environment Time” for students to care for their green spaces and connect with their environment

  • School Working Bee

  • Participating in excursions in our natural local environment

  • Junior school ‘Farm to Fork’ dinner event

  • Encouraging developmental play using natural and sensory environmental resources

We embed the following sustainability principles into our Literacy, STEAM and Inquiry teaching:

  • Learning about human impact on the environment

  • Investigating sustainable materials and design processes

  • Understanding where our food comes from

  • Learning about ways to care for the environment

  • Learning about the world’s biodiversity and what animals and plants need to survive

  • Investigating bushfires and floods and their impact on human and physical environment

  • The use and management of natural resources
