Literacy
Our literacy program starts as early as the first day of the transition from Kinder to Foundation and continues until our students deliver their farewell speech in Grade 6.
We prioritise the development of oral language skills and building a strong vocabulary, using our Investigations play-based curriculum in the Foundation to Year 2 stage.
Our classrooms are filled with print resources to spark our students' interest in words, books, and their surroundings. In the Foundation to Year 2 stage, we focus on essential skills. This includes learning to read, writing for personal purposes, and learning how to speak and listen in different situations throughout the day.
As our students progress to Years 3-6, we expand these foundational skills. At this stage, students start reading for pleasure and gaining information, write longer and more complex pieces in various genres. We continue encouraging small group interactions to improve their communication and negotiation skills, vital for effective teamwork.
Students needs are targeted through individual goals, strategy groups and 1:1 conferencing with teachers.
