Inquiry

At Moomba Park Primary School in years 3-6, Inquiry is underpinned by the Victorian Curriculum, and The Walker Learning Approach. Together these provide a balance between the students being active participants in their learning and explicit instruction of content, skills and dispositions.

Through our units of work, such as Humanities, History, Sustainability and design and technology, students are provided with authentic, rich experiences to build transferable and adaptable skills to ensure they are equipped for whatever the future holds.

An important component of The Walker Learning Approach is the Education Research Project (ERP). An ERP is the study and research of a major curriculum area over the course of one term. Students are empowered to take ownership of their learning by linking their interest to the unit focus and using other areas of the curriculum such as English and Numeracy to produce a project they are passionate about. Students have choices in how their ERP is communicated and an EXPO is held each term to showcase their learning within the school and to our parent community.

At MPPS our Inquiry learning environments promote:

  • Decision making

  • Persistence

  • Risk taking

  • Investigating and Researching

  • Collaboration

  • Peer and self-assessment
