STEAM

Through our STEAM program, students explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths. Students are active participants in a range of experiments, design challenges and projects which encourage them to develop skills across all 5 areas.

STEAM provides students with an opportunity to collaborate with others to explore concepts related to earth and space, physical, biological, and chemical sciences. They take on the role of scientists as they question the world around them and develop their scientific inquiry skills as they work together to build their knowledge and skills.

The STEAM classroom also severs as a Maker Space. This allows students to access and select appropriate materials that will help students to experiment with how different things work, develop engineering and design thinking skills and present their learning in a way that is meaningful to them. Our Maker Space includes 3D printers, cardboard construction tools and craft supplies, as well as natural and building construction materials such as marble runs, Lego and blocks.

We thoughtfully utilise technology throughout STEAM sessions to engage students, develop digital literacy and bring opportunities to students that expand their learning well beyond the classroom. Students participate in regular eSafety sessions to support them to make safe choices and make the most of their time online.

All students have a one-hour session each week in our dedicated STEAM classroom. In addition to this session, students have opportunities to participate in our STEAM Enrichment program which provides students with an opportunity to design their own project. Some examples of student projects from previous programs include podcasts, creating murals, making video games, computer augmented design and 3D printing, cooking and science experiments. Students also have access to lunchtime clubs and special events throughout the year.
